CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS

Household goods are considered personal effects and can be imported into Brunei provided:

Personal belongings are used prior to arrival and are not intended for gifts or commercial purposes.

(Used personal effects only).  Non dutiable for Used Personal effects

If new 5% – 20% dutiable depending on items imported.

The ‘List of inventory” and “Bill of Lading” must be received before vessel / aircraft arrival.

CHECKED ARTICLES: 

  • Movies, Books, Records and Video Cassettes
  • DVDs/CDs/VCDs subject to security screening and normally return after a week
  • All CD/DVD’s to be packed in separate box in easy access inside container for inspection
  • New furniture subject to inspection & duty 5% of CIF value

Document Required for Customs Clearance:

  • Copy of  Passport of shipper
  • Delivery address and contact phone number / email
  • Packing lists
  • Copy of OBL ( if not telex release ) if sea freight
  • Copy of Airway bill ( AWB ) if airfreight

FOR DIPLOMATIC SHIPMENTS:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs letter of exemption
  • Packing list
  • OBL
  • Copy of passport

PLEASE PREALERT ADVICE US ALL SHIPMENT INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION PRIOR TO SHIPMENTS ARRIVAL IN BRUNEI SO TO AVOID ANY DEMURRAGE/STORAGE INCURRING.

PROHIBITED AND RESTRICTED GOODS

Narcotics, Drugs, Pornographic material, firearms, and certain literature

All forms of alcohol/liquor/wine/spirits / imitation items

No food items allowed

MOTOR VEHICLES (AUTOS AND MOTORBIKES)

Documents required for import of car;

  • Photos of the car ( front/back/left side/right side)
  • Car Details ( i.e chassis no., engine no., color ) – not tinted
  • Registration Card/ Certificate from Country of Origin
  • Invoice
  • Letter to Customs & Land Transport stating that you want to import car & length of stay in Brunei

(Please state that you are re-exporting the car after end of contract to exempt from duty)

  • Letter to Customs & Land Transport authorizing Morley & Co. to do the paperwork
  • Copy of passport showing first arrival in Brunei
  • Copy of Passport
  • Copy of Brunei IC
  • Employment Letter
  • Copy of Bill of lading if available
